Welcome to Year 1/2

Welcome to our combined Year 1/2 page.

We have three mixed classes in Year 1/2.

The teams are made up as follows:

Mrs Bramma (teaches Monday - Thursday) and Mrs Pillai is a regular supply teacher in the class on a Friday. The teaching assistants in this class are Mrs Robson-Beck, Ms Duncan and Mrs Peacock. Mrs Taylor is currently on maternity leave and enjoying her time with baby Lottie.

Mrs Green (teaches Monday - Wednesday) and Mrs Nihill (teaches Thursday and Friday). Mrs Gornall is currently on maternity leave. The teaching assistants in this class are Mrs Coates, Ms Garth and Mrs Mitchell.

Mrs Hesketh (teaches Monday - Friday) The teaching assistants are Mrs Justice and Miss Munroe.

Alongside this, we are lucky enough to have Mrs Hughes, Miss Galtrey and Miss Duncan who teach in our classes every Tuesday to cover our PPA time.

We all operate an open door policy and if you need to see your child's class teacher, the best time to catch them is after school on the days listed above. If those times aren't suitable for you, please call the Office to make an alternative appointment.

PE days

Mrs Bramma's PE will be indoor on a Thursday afternoon, and outdoor on a Monday afternoon.

Mrs Green's and Mrs Nihill's PE days are Wednesdays and Fridays.

Mrs Hesketh's PE will be indoors on a Monday afternoon, and outdoors on a Wednesday afternoon.

Please ensure that your child has the correct kit in school at all times, especially as it is the summer term, as we may do additional sessions in the lead up to Sports Day. It would be very helpful if you could name all items of clothing, as we do tend to end up with 'spares' on a regular basis!

This term our topic is 'India'

Children will be learning about the Indian culture and key places and buildings. Our Science focuses on the temperature here in Easingwold, and in India. We are using a weather app to record the temperature in India at the same time each week in our Science lesson. The children with use digital thermometer to record the temperature outside each week. Our Art work will link closely to our Topic and the children will learn about the following: the Peacock, Rangoli patterns and Mhendi. Our timetables have altered slightly in that we haven't specified that we are doing the foundation subjects on a weekly basis. This is because we have decided the block learning and give the children themed days, and the Year 2 children will have some additional revision sessions ahead of the Year 2 SATs. Our PE will focus on Bollywood dancing, and we look forward to welcoming a Bollywood Dance teacher into school towards the end of this half term. WE will combine this with tasting Indian cuisine.

How can you help your child at home?

To help your child, please could you read with them daily and record this in their reading record - even if it is their own book that you have read. Asking them lots of questions about their stories will really help develop their comprehension skills. Also it is useful to talk about the meanings of words in the stories and ask your child to try to explain what a word means. Practicing number bonds and times tables will also really help your child.  Homework will come home every Friday and is due back the following Wednesday. The children will be tested on their Spellings every fortnight, in line with the new homework policy. The children will always bring home Maths homework, linked to what we have been doing in class as well as a times table grid. The children will then bring either a Comprehension book (Week A) or a SPAG book (Week B) home with the expectation that one page is completed. Information regarding what page we expect the children to complete at home will be detailed on the weekly Newsletter so please make sure you read it. If you'd like any advice about how to help your child at home further, please ask.

Please keep checking our class page to find copies of our timetable, photographs of our learning and links to useful websites to aid your child's learning.
