Welcome to Year 6
All of the year 6 children are in one class this year! Our team consists of Miss Potter (class teacher) Miss Galtrey (HLTA/TA) and Mrs Hughes (HLTA.) The best time to catch us is after school on either a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.
We expect the children in year 6 to read at least five times a week and for an adult at home to sign this off. The children have been provided with home/school diaries and we would like to see every child’s diary complete with a recording of the books they are reading and which page number they are up to. Most should be able to do this themselves, however it is still highly beneficial to hear your child read. Please initial your child’s reading. There will be space for you in the diary to write a comment if you so wish.
Please support your child by ensuring they complete their homework. We also expect them to regularly practise their weekly spellings and current Maths target. Your child will be set alternating Maths and English homework on a Friday which is to be returned the following Thursday. Please encourage your child to complete this to a high standard and as soon as possible, getting into the habit of handing it in on time.
Year 6 Revision
In addition to this, the children have now purchased their revision books. Please arrange time in the week for revision in the lead up to the SATs. Learning the common exception words and the quick recall of times table and related division facts up to 12 x 12 to support their success in school.
Please encourage your child to check their timetable (see attached;) they should be well organised. Support us with encouraging independence and good organisational skills. We expect children to be wearing the approved school uniform and P.E kit. Indoor P.E is on a Tuesday and games is on a Friday.
