We have 2 Year 6 classes this year!
In Class Support
We operate an open door policy and encourage parents to come to us with queries, questions, concerns and successes. The best times to catch us are:
Miss Potter - after school on Wednesday and Friday
Miss Hill - after school on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Mornings are often our busiest time as we prepare for the learning but if you need to speak with us, please don't hesitate to contact the office who can help you to arrange a meeting at the earliest mutual convenience.
We expect the children in year 6 to read at least five times a week and for an adult at home to sign this off. The children have been provided with home/school diaries and we would like to see every child’s diary complete with a recording of the books they are reading and which page number they are up to. Most should be able to do this themselves, however it is still highly beneficial to hear your child read. Please initial your child’s reading. There will be space for you in the diary to write a comment if you so wish.
Please support your child by ensuring they complete their homework. We also expect them to regularly practise their weekly spellings and current Maths target. Your child will be set alternating Maths homework on a Friday, as well as alternating SPAaG and Reading homework, which is to be returned the following Wednesday. Please encourage your child to complete this to a high standard and as soon as possible, getting into the habit of handing it in on time.
Year 6 Revision
In addition to this, children will be able to purchase revision books later in the year - keep an eye on the newsletter for further information. Please arrange time in the week for revision in the lead up to the SATs. Learning the common exception words and the quick recall of times table and related division facts up to 12 x 12 will also support their success in school.
Please encourage your child to check their timetable (see attached) regularly they should be well organised. Support us with encouraging independence and good organisational skills, which will be beneficial in this very important transition year. We expect children to be wearing the approved school uniform and P.E kit. Indoor P.E is on a Tuesday and games is on a Friday.
